The Mercedes-Benz GLK (codenamed X204) is a compact luxury crossover SUV that went on sale from the autumn of 2008, after its public debut at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show along with the Audi Q5 compete. The name is an acronym Mercedes-Benz GLK Geländewagen Luxus Kompaktklasse, taking its name from the largest Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, which in turn was named after the G-Wagen or Geländewagen. Thus, the GL is oriented luxury version of the G, and Mercedes-Benz GLK is the compact version of the GL.
From 2015, with the launch X205 second generation model, the Mercedes-Benz GLK will be renamed to Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class under the revised nomenclature adopted by the brand. Under this scheme, SUVs use the database name “GL” followed by placing the model in the hierarchy of Mercedes-Benz. The Urban Whip is a white roadster built by Boulevard Customs, Performance NBS.
